Been Forever

It's been forever since I posted last. Here's a recap. Leah just finished up playing soccer this fall. She enjoyed it and even scored a goal in one of the games. Leah is in kindergarten now and I am homeschooling her which she really enjoys. Anna is doing preschool at home and asks every morning for school. Another thing Anna loves is Legos. We probably play with them 1/2 of the day. Rachel is 2 1/2 and is potty trained now. It was very easy with her so I love that. Nathan is almost 11 months old and is getting his 5 and 6th teeth in. I can't believe my baby is almost one!

The girls are loving Sparkies and Cubbies at church. Leah and Anna are both doing great learning their verses. The Sparkies CD that comes with the book is great. The girls want to listen to it every day. Leah is having a friend come with her to Sparkies tonight and she is super excited.

Tomorrow is the last swim class for Leah and Anna. We've been going to the pool a lot to practice so hopefully they both pass and can move onto the next level together.

Just remembered I wanted to make homemade bread for dinner. Better go get it started....

New Foods

We decided to take the plunge and start Nathan on cereal the other day. It means that he is growing up, faster than I would like I think. It also means that he isn't as portable as he used to be. Now before leaving the house I have to think cereal, spoon, bib. Before all I needed was me! After a few days on cereal I we started out on green beans. He wasn't refusing them, but he definitely did the "icky shutter" when he actually swallowed some. It was pretty cute.

Palm Sunday

So the girls were in a Palm Sunday parade at church this year. Leah didn't participate during the first service - she was pretty upset about having to go on stage. After a little bit of talking, she decided she would do it second service and we were able to get a video of the girls. It was neat watching all the kids praising Jesus.

It's hard to believe but Rachel turned two this week. I decided to try something new this year and decided to do cupcakes instead of a cake. I'm happy with how they turned out. The kids thought they were great!

Nathan's Cute Little Laugh

So Nathan has started to develop a little laugh now and then, but not really anything consistent about when it will happen. I've started to notice that when I take his shirt off it makes him laugh a little. Tonight I told Jeremy to grab the camera and see if we could catch it on tape and it was better than I expected. We got his first official "laugh"! I was so excited. The laugh is just at the beginning, so the rest of the video is pretty boring.

Baby Dedication

Yesterday we dedicated Nathan to the Lord at church. I was trying to explain to Leah and Anna that the were giving Nathan back to the Lord since God gave him to us as a gift. Also that we were committing to teaching Nathan about Jesus and the wonderful gift Jesus gave by dying on the cross for our sins and conquering death by raising from the dead on the third day so that we could reign in heaven with him.

The whole family came up on stage and the girls did really good. By the end of it Anna was laying down on the floor and during the prayer for the other boy being dedicated Rachel kept calling for Mimi and Papa. Overall I was very happy with their behavior!

Beautiful Weather

So the weather has been so beautiful lately! However whenever I get around to getting the kids out of the house, the sun is gone and it starts to get colder. We took a short walk and Jeremy took Rachel and Nathan home while I took Leah and Anna to the park. They had a lot of fun. Looking forward to spring!

Took the big girls on the Ferris wheel at a local store here last weekend. They seemed to enjoy it. As much as I love amusement parks and roller coasters, I still get scared on the Ferris wheel. They didn't rock the cart though so I was okay.

We got a bunch of snow the other day - about 10 inches so the girls wanted so badly to play outside. I took them out and they had a blast playing while I did some snow blowing for Daddy. I didn't get the sledding on video, but they were also able to sled down our driveway after I cleared most of the snow off. Leah was having a blast!

October and Fall Festival

We decided to carve a pumpkin this year for the first time with the girls. They really enjoyed helping Mommy clean out the seeds. We also participated in the fall festival at church. Leah was the cat in the hat, Anna was a pink poodle and Rachel was a purple butterfly.

Anna really liked her blue heart and they even added glitter to it. We went to the bathroom right after and she came out of her stall with the heart all smeared and glitter on her lips. I asked her what was going on and she said it was because she didn't like it. I'm glad that we didn't pay for it since it came off right away.

Rachel Scare

Jeremy and Nano were in the office and Nano looked over and saw Rachel had something in her mouth. She took out 6 pills from Grandpa's pill case, but couldn't find the 7th pill. It turns out it was Glyburide 5 mg. It's for Grandpa's diabetes. After calling poison control, they said we needed to take Rachel into the emergency room. Jeremy and I took Rachel in and Grandpa and Grandma took care of the two older girls. We had to give Rachel a charcoal drink that was flavored with cherry. She drank a lot out of it out with a straw, but then she would just drink it and spit it out. I wondered why she didn't just turn her head away and not even suck it up.

After the pediatrician came in to see Rachel, they took a syringe and forced Rachel to drink it by squeezing her cheeks so she couldn't spit it out. I had to hold her arms and Daddy held her legs. It was so hard to watch. I was crying because Rachel was so upset. They had to open the Pediatrician floor, so we were sitting in the ER until about 9. We got there about 6. Once we got up to the Pediatrician floor they took Rachel away and put in an IV. Even though Rachel was in a different room, we could hear her crying. Rachel came back and had bandages in three spots and an IV on her right hand with a net over it to keep it in. She had cute little white "scrubs" on. They checked Rachel's blood sugar every hour. When we first checked in I think it was 97 and at 8:00 it was 57. Finally after her midnight glucose check Rachel fell asleep in my arms sitting in a chair.

Rachel was able to sleep about 4 - 5 solid hours even with them coming to prick her fingers. She was exhausted! I tried laying her in the crib, but she woke up right away. Whenever I had to shift because of being pregnant, it would usually wake Rachel up. Daddy came by in the morning and stayed until about 12:30. It was nice to have him there. I only got about 1-2 hours of sleep maybe. We had to wake Rachel up around 5:00 because her blood sugar was at 91 and they don't want it to go under 90 in the first 12-24 hours of watching her after she took the medicine. We were giving her juice, Popsicles, jello and jam. Anything to get her to take some extra sugar. It was hard because she was soooo tired, and didn't want anything at first. She wanted to sleep more! At about 9ish (I think), her IV started leaking, so they were going to put another in. There was no one to help with the IV, so after waiting for awhile, they decided to not put another one in. I was glad for that! Rachel's little spot when she was playing was to go back up to the wall and sit over the table below. It was so cute to watch. She would take toys with her over there.

They finally let us go around 3:30.

Circus

We went to the circus last week when it was in town. Leah had been asking for awhile when we could go back. I decided to drive the girls over to just see the animals but we weren't planning on going. When we showed up, they had camels, elephants, a zebra and a hippo. It got me excited about it thinking it would be great. We had free tickets for everyone but one adult, so it wasn't that bad. It was kinda cheesy, but the girls loved it. I just enjoy watching their faces as they get so excited about what's happening.

So today is the first day of September. I can't believe how fast this year has flow by. Leah and Anna start Cubbies next Wednesday which means youth group is starting back up again. Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. Today when I put Rachel down for nap, it had started raining, so the girls and I went and played in the garage. Anna is really getting better at riding her bike. I think they enjoyed getting out of the house. I went to Rachel right as I heard her get up from nap and when I walked in, no shorts and no diaper! I think next nap I should try the doctors advice and put the diaper on backwards. My guess is that she will just pull it down. She's pretty determined. We'll see.....

Houdini

So Rachel is our little Houdini. No matter what I'm putting her in to sleep at night or naps, she's taking it off. I feel like half the time when I walk in to get her she is naked. I have had too many times of having to clean up bathroom accidents off the sheets, crib, her to count. What a mess! I had been putting her in a snap onsie thinking she couldn't get out of that. She gets her arms out of her neck hole and then pulls her shirt off her legs. So tonight I'm trying a zip up sleeper with snap on top. Hopefully she will still be dressed tomorrow morning!

Crazy Day

So I was sick at home on Tuesday with three significant bouts of pain in my right lower rib area, so after calling the doctor, we decided that I should go to the emergency room. They hooked me up to an IV and decided they thought it was my gallbladder and were going to put me on a low fat diet. Seriously, a low fat diet? I can't have cheese or chocolate! The doctor said to stay away from anything that comes from an animal. I can only have 3 whole eggs a week and 3 tsp of fat a day which includes butter, margarine, mayo, oil, etc. Jeremy and I went shopping today and found a bunch of stuff at Walmart that is fat free - spray butter, no fat cheese, no fat yogurt, and ground turkey. It's going to take awhile to slide into this "diet". My OB doctor wanted to do a follow up ultrasound, so the nurse scheduled it for me and called me back with the time, which was going to be 10:00 today. I show up and the ultrasound tech asked me if I had anything to eat for breakfast. I said yes, because I always eat breakfast and she told me we would have to reschedule. The nurse didn't tell me to fast. I was so upset because it was a waste of time and gas going into town and now it is rescheduled for tomorrow, Anna's birthday at 7:30. I was definitely experiencing pregnancy hormones, because I just wanted to cry. On the way home I got stopped by an accident ahead of me on the interstate and when I finally drove by, I saw that a semi had taken a turn too quick and overturned on its side. The funny part was that there was a bunch of pigs walking around on the interstate! I needed that laugh.

We thought this video was so funny because Rachel didn't like Daddy putting her Cheerios in the small cup holder in her stroller. I always put them in the same side, so when Daddy chose the other cup holder, it wasn't right to her, so she would take all the Cheerios and put them in the "right" cup holder.

Just sitting here working on the computer and I can feel the baby kicking. It's exciting as the baby gets bigger to feel it move more. Went to the doctor yesterday and the heartbeat was 157 beats per minute. Our next appointment is our ultrasound. We keep referring to it as her, at least I do when I'm talking with the girls. Every night when Anna prays, she always says, Thank you that Mommy is going to have another baby.

So today we had some friends come over and play, and since they've left, Anna has peeped on the floor in her room and then after lunch, pooped in the potty but had it ALL over her hands, pants, towel, and toilet. I am so frustrated with her right now! I called Grandpa and he's coming to pick up Leah, and Anna has to stay home. I am ready for today to be over?!

So, I'm a week late posting this. Leah turned 4 last Monday. We had a party for her the week before, so Monday was just our family time. We got up and went to the donut store for birthday donuts. Nano and Grandpa brought over burger king for lunch for the girls. They always love when Nano and Grandpa get them happy meals because they get a toy!

Today is Rachel's birthday! We had a party for her last weekend, so here is the video of her first cake. She had her own little mini cake. I had decorated it cute with a purple number one on it. Jeremy wanted to look at it and he dropped it on the counter! I ended up taking my knife and just spreading it all around to make an all purple cake.

Something to Think About

So Jeremy and I are really trying to follow Dave Ramsey's method of saving. We use the envelope system and are working on our emergency fund. I was reminded by Jeremy that following this method is good, and relieves some of the stress in our lives, but all it takes is one thing to wipe it out. There is no security in money, only in God. I need to make sure that as we are saving that i am still trusting in God and not the nest egg.

A moment of rest

A moment of rest while everyone is sleeping. Walt Mueller, the president of the Center for Parent/Youth Understanding was speaking at the church today. I was pretty disappointed that I couldn't go and listen. I'm sure it would have been a great tool as I help along side Jeremy in youth ministry. It was all day, and I figured it would be too long to have a babysitter watch the girls. I took them all to church with me and tried to listen through the nursery monitor, but that didn't go over too well. I'll have to have Jeremy teach me/fill me in when he gets home.

I've moved Anna over to a big bed. It's gone better than I thought. I thought for sure she would be up playing with her toys, but nothing yet. She has had two accidents this week...not sure I should call them accidents because I'm pretty sure she deliberately went potty on the floor. So I told her that if she did it again, I would take away her big bed and put her back in a crib. This would entail me putting the crib back together, so hopefully my scare tactic worked. I don't want to go to all that trouble!

We went to a track meet on Thursday with the girls. The girls in jackets and no coat for me...only to wake up on Friday to have 3 more inches of snow! It's crazy. I did enjoy the easiness of getting out of the house in jackets. If I had only thought to open up the house. Next time.

Rachel and Leah are having birthdays in a couple of weeks. Now, if I could only decide on a cake. Leah's no help. Every time I ask her, she asks for a different cake. I guess I'll just surprise her.

Jeremy's on vacation this coming week. Looking forward to some time together. He's been so busy lately...

I was looking back and realized that I haven't really posted anything about us lately. I guess because there isn't much to report. Most days are the same...time spent indoors because of all the snow. I am really looking forward to being able to get outside and run around in the grass....also without coats. That adds about 5 minutes at least to my getting out of the house routine just putting every ones coats on. As soon as you have everyone ready, someone has already taken off their hat. I'm not naming names, Anna.

Leah is enjoying Cubbies. She got to go to the Awana store and came back with little treasures. The tiny game she chose has already been broken by Anna. It was fun while it lasted.

Anna enjoys talking on the phone. My sister took a vacation a couple of weeks ago and my parents watched Emily for them. So now every time Anna talks to Mimi, she is still asking if Emily is still there. It doesn't matter that we've already told her 10 times before that she isn't.

Rachel is crawling everywhere and pulling up to everything. I have to keep my eye on her. She is putting everything in her mouth. She loves chewing on books and eating paper. Every time I am in the kitchen she is getting into the cupboards or trying to pull things out of the dishwasher as I try to load it up.

I'm getting ready to consign at our consignment sale here in town. I can't believe we are already up on March!

Well, that's all for now. It's way too quiet...better see what Rachel is up to now!

So Jeremy and I were going into town last night to take some kids to see "To Save a Life" because we wanted to get their opinions on it - if we should show it as a movie night when it comes out. I decided to drive since Jeremy hadn't eaten yet and I figured it would be easier for him to eat and not have to worry about driving. I was driving the church van which I had never driven before. We were about to get onto the highway when my cell phone rings. I had just decided after watching an Oprah that I am not going to talk or text on my cell phone in the car. My life and the life of my children/and other drivers is more important than my phone call. I used to talk on the phone all the time when I was driving....so it's going to be a hard habit to break. Someone from church called and I naturally picked it up. As I'm headed onto the on ramp, Jeremy proceeds to tell me that I had gotten pulled over. I'm freaking out! They police officer comes up to the window and tells me that I was going a little fast in the 35 back there. Since I was on the phone, I don't really know how fast I was going (proof not to be talking on my phone!!). He asks for my license and registration and Jeremy tells him what church we were from and that we were taking the kids into town to see a movie. He goes back to the car to do his thing. Meanwhile, the kids think that this is great. Someone even said, "This is great! I've never been pulled over before". In my head I'm saying, "No this is no great!". So I was praying when he would give me a warning. I have only been pulled over 3 times in my life and I've never gotten a warning...so I figured it wouldn't happen this time. However when he came back he did just give me a warning to slow down. Thank you Jesus!!! I was starting to pull out and the cop car was pulling out....good thing I looked first. That's all I needed was to hit the cop car. What a crazy night!

Leah asked Jesus into her heart this morning. She had been talking about knowing how she was going to heaven. Last night I told her that she need to pray to Jesus and she said, I’m going to pray right now. She went over to the Lovesac and prayed, “Jesus forgive me of my sins”. Then this morning when she was listening to the radio she asked how she would get to heaven. When Daddy came down after getting dressed he sat her on his lap and asked Leah if she would like to know for sure if she was going to heaven and she said yes. We asked Leah if she believed that Jesus died on the cross for her sins and she said yes. Then Leah prayed with Jeremy and asked Jesus into her heart. Mommy was crying as Leah was praying. I was so happy! Then Leah called Nano and Grandpa, and Aunt Michelle and Mimi and told them that she believes that Jesus died on the cross for her sins.

Pumpkin Patch

We took off for the pumpkin patch a couple weeks ago right after church. It wasn't that cold when we left the house, however when we got to the pumpkin patch, it was muddy and very cold. I wasn't prepared and didn't think to bring hats for the girls, so I decided to take their scarves and tie them around their ears. Oh, and before we got out of the car, I got Rachel out of her seat only to find out that she had exploded all over the place! It was a mess trying to clean that up in the car (I didn't want to step out in the mud) and get her clothes changed. I wanted to get the pictures of the girls in the pig statue because I got pictures with the same statue two years ago when Anna was a baby.

Potty Training

So I'm glad it's over. Anna caught on really quickly. She's now dry during naps and also waking up dry sometimes in the morning. We've started to venture out but we always carry a potty with us in the car, just in case. She's pretty proud of herself. I think she likes that she is a big girl like Leah now.

Rachel is starting to crawl now and push herself up to sitting. It's fun to watch her try and get around. I don't really remember the girls pushing themselves up to sitting. (You think I would remember, it hasn't been that long!)

I'm looking forward to the holidays. I love this time of the year!

No success, 3 accidents. The 2nd time, I rushed her to the potty chair and she went the rest in there. I think she gets it in her mind, but doesn't get her body signals. We'll see. I've been praying like crazy today!!

The Big Day

Tomorrow is the big day when I'm going to attempt to potty train Anna. I'm using the "Potty Training in Less than a Day" book. It worked for Leah, so I'm praying that I'll have success with Anna. I'm pretty stressed out about and I've been praying a lot for her attitude to be submissive and that she would just "get it". We'll see...

So Leah started Cubbies at church this year and she is really doing a good job at memorizing her verses. I love it because it gives me a verse to learn each week with her! So tonight was crazy hair night and the "baby" she is holding is baby Jesus that they made out of a sock. Tonight was the night that you hope you read the schedule right and you aren't the only one sending your kid to Awana with crazy hair!

So Rachel has started rolling! She rolled once awhile back and I missed it. Then she did it again, and I missed it. Finally, I saw it on the third time and was able to capture it on video. She is very fast at it now, and is even rolling over in bed. I usually find her on her stomach when I go to get her after naps and in the morning.

You've Got What??

So Jeremy came home on Monday, not feeling the best which is understandable considering he was up late every night, driving 17 hours home between two days. Tuesday I was headed into Omaha to get his cell phone that he left in the rental car when I saw Cindy from church and decided to give her a call. She filled me in that two kids who also weren't feeling well were taken to the doctor as soon as they got home and it turns out that they have Influenza A and since they had been traveling, they are 95% sure it's swine flu. When I found that out, I had Jeremy go to Urgent Care to get tested. He said that the nurse said it takes 10 minutes to get a positive result on the test and Jeremy's was positive in less than a minute. I think about 6 kids from the trip have tested positive for Influenza A. According to CDC of Nebraska, Influenza A/swine flu is the only influenza in Nebraska right now. So needless to say, we are quarantined in our house for at least 7 days. I got sick on Wednesday and Leah and Anna both got sick today. We're trying to be really careful around Rachel since she is so young and is too little to give Tamiflu to. So, every time I'm holding her I'm wearing a mask so that she won't touch my mouth or that I won't breathe on her face. So it's a little crazy around here. Jeremy is feeling better now, mostly just fatigue. Halfway through the day and you have to lay down because you have no energy. I have a headache and a fever. Today was Anna's birthday, and I walked into her room singing "happy birthday" and she said "no mommy no". She was extremely fussy all morning and was crying that she wanted a nap at 11:30. After nap she was much better. Both of the girls are running a fever though. Leah's been acting fine though, so hopefully that's the only symptom she will get.

So Rachel rolled today! I had her on her back under her play mat while I was cutting up Anna's pictures and when I looked up she was on her stomach! I thought she was going to be rolling soon because sometimes when I go to get her out of her crib, she is laying with her had on the opposite side of the bed than when I laid her down the night before.

Leah is busy getting into trouble. It seems like every time I turn around, she is getting into something she knows is wrong. Hmmm....she must know when I'm busy! Leah and I were out on the front porch while the other two girls were sleeping and I told her not to climb on something because I didn't know how sturdy it was and I didn't want to "open that can of worms". She said, "Mommy, I won't let the worms out".

Anna is turning two in a couple of weeks. I have decided to make her a Thomas the Train cake. He was here in Fremont last weekend and again this weekend. He costs $18 per person to ride, so we just go and look at him, watch him drive away, bounce in the Thomas inflatable and a few other things they have there. I figured since she will have just seen him so much, she would think a Thomas cake was neat. We'll see.

The 4th

So not much happened today. We went over to Jeremy's parents for dinner. The girls had a wonderful time, but we left early because Rachel was falling asleep. I love how she is sleeping through the night and I don't want to mess that up! I was able to spend a little bit of time organizing the girls clothes today. They were mostly organized except for the new things I've been purchasing at garage sales and things they've grown out of that had not been put in the correct bin. I always feel so good when I accomplish an organizing project around the house! We've started getting zucchini from our garden which the girls love. Yeah! The green beans are starting to grow....maybe next week we'll be able to try them. Here's a few pictures from the last couple of weeks.
